The Venice Simplon Orient Express Compartments – what you need to know

The Venice Simplon Orient Express experience is truly unique and this is in part due to the sympathetically restored compartments that passengers enjoy during their journey. Travelling in private compartments, passengers on the Venice Simplon Orient Express benefit form their own personal Cabin Stewards throughout the journey. The service provided by these highly skilled professionals is guaranteed to be attentive yet discreet like no other.

Each compartment has its own washbasin cabinet, featuring hot and cold water, whilst at night-time the space is transformed into a comfortable bedroom, complete with soft, luxurious towels and crisp linen to make for a restful and relaxing night’s sleep.

There are 3 distinct types of compartment available for selection by passengers: Single, Double and the highly exclusive Grand Suites. All cabins but for the Grand Suites convert magically from day-time personalised travel compartments into night-time comfortable sleeping compartments. Below we have detailed the various configurations and options for each. All compartments and public areas are fully air-conditioned.

Single Compartment (twin beds in an ‘upper’ and ‘lower’ configuration)

Configured as a relaxing private lounge during the day comprising sofa, footstool table, the compartment converts in the evening to a night configuration with an upper and lower bed.

The Orient Express Single Compartments also feature a washbasin with hot and cold water enclosed in a cabinet, with towels and toiletries provided.

Facilities include the coveted 24-hour Cabin Steward service called by a bell – where the attentive Cabin Steward will attend to your every need. Sockets for electrical appliances  use continental (two-pin) electric plugs and 115 volt sockets for razors, as well as thermostatically controlled radiators supplying heating.

In addition, some compartments are fitted with a personal safe whilst overhead luggage racks are provided for the storage of a compact amount of luggage and two coat hooks with hangers for hanging up clothes.

Double Compartment (Cabin Suite comprising 2 interconnecting single compartments)

By combining two interconnecting single compartments to create a private lounge with a sofa, footstool and table in one compartment and a sleeping compartment with an upper and lower bed the Cabin Suite offers a larger private space for 2 adults to relax during their journey.

As per the single compartment, a washbasin with hot and cold water is enclosed in a cabinet and towels and toiletries. The 24-hour steward service is also included and as per the single compartments, some orient express compartments are fitted with a personal safe.

In addition to the configuration detailed above, the cabin suite can also be prepared so that both lower berths can be used at night to avoid using upper berths effectively creating two bedrooms.

Grand Suites

Newly launched and hugely popular, the Orient Express Grand Suites add an additional layer of luxury to an already exclusively sumptuous train travel experience.

With just 3 suites available on board, they are understandably exclusive and availability is limited.

Each of the 3 Orient Express suites features a double or twin bedroom together with a living area. In the living area, there is ample space for private dining if desired and a sofa which can be converted into an additional bed in the evening.

Unlike other compartments aboard the Orient Express, the Grand Suites also feature a private ensuite bathroom including shower, washbasin and toilet as well as luxury amenities and complimentary designer bathrobes.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express cabin service, provided by the 24 Hour Stewards is complemented by free-flowing champagne whilst in your suite.

Traditional art-deco interior designs have been inspired by the culture of the world’s most romantic cities – cities that incidentally feature on the iconic journey of the Orient Express throughout history.

The Istanbul Grand Suite

Opulence and full of romance, featuring hand-carved timber, embossed leather and exaggerated metal details. Embroidered pillows and rugs echo of the Grand Bazaar.

The Paris Grand Suite

Light classic & distinctly inspired by the charm of classic Paris, this chic suite draws on the French capital’s grand architecture with flourishes of haute couture.

The Venice Grand Suite

Silks, woven fabrics, glass lamps and Venetian furniture reflect grand Italian Baroque and renaissance design. Venice has to be the most synonymous of cities when thinking of the Orient Express.
