Your Croatian Adventure - Holiday Itinerary

Day 1 – By rail to Munich

Your holiday begins as you stroll into St Pancras International in the centre of London. Take the time to admire this beautifully restored station, including its arched glass roof, then join the Eurostar service to Brussels.

Watch the countryside swish past as you sit back, relax and enjoy the light meal and drinks served on board in Standard Premier Class (Eurostar’s First Class for leisure travellers).

After reaching speeds of up to 186 mph, you soon arrive in Brussels where you change trains and continue to Munich, the Bavarian capital.

On arrival in this attractive city head for your overnight hotel, the comfortable Eurostars Grand Central (4 star), ideally located close to the station.

Munich

Day 2 – Munich to Ljubljana

Following a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, it will soon be time to return to the station for your comfortable EuroCity journey in First Class to Villach.

Enjoy the passing scenery from the comfort of your seat before arriving into the Austrian town of Villach. Here, you change trains and board the high-speed service into Slovenia and to the capital of Ljubljana.

On arrival at the station, you will be making your own arrangements to the Grand Union Hotel (4 star), your base for the night.

Day 3 - At leisure in Ljubljana and Arrival into Zagreb, the Croatian Capital

After breakfast at your hotel this morning, you have the morning to explore.

Ljubljana is brimming with history and culture – and no wonder, with landmarks from all five millennia of its history. Apart from the remains of the Roman Emona, it boasts a medieval castle and numerous old city centre baroque buildings with uneven rooves, richly-decorated façades and portals. The mosaic of Ljubljana is completed by picturesque bridges across the Ljubljanica River and the vast Tivoli Park, which extends into the very centre of the city. The centre of Ljubljana owes its appearance partly to the masters of the Italian baroque and partly to those of the Art Nouveau period, the latter being reflected in the style of many buildings built immediately after the earthquake of 1895.

Then, it will soon be time to return to the station for your journey from Slovenia, into Croatia and the capital city of Zagreb. From the station, it is a short walk to your hotel for the night, the comfortable Hotel Esplanade (4 star).

Day 4 – Zagreb to Split

Following breakfast this morning and some time for some last-minute sightseeing, it will soon be time to return to the station to board your train through the beautiful Croatian countryside before your arrival into Split this evening.

On arrival, make your own way to the highly-rated and well placed Hotel Luxe (4 star), your accommodation for the next three nights. The evening is then yours to relax or explore.

Days 5 & 6 - At leisure in Split

Built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian, the city of Split boasts the best-preserved Roman Palace complex in Europe, which remains at the city’s very heart.

Take time to discover its highlights. The city’s compact centre is a maze of narrow, haphazardly winding streets, stone stairways, low arches and twisting alleyways, all lined with white-walled buildings.

Be sure to visit Split’s masterpiece, the Diocletian Palace. The palace is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is packed with historical buildings and museums as well as the National Theatre. Ironically, the Palace complex contains several churches representing the religion Diocletian spent his life trying to eradicate.

For a different view, you may like to take a day trip (payable locally) to Krka National Park, around an hour away by car from Split and known for a series of waterfalls in a stunning natural location.

Day 7 - By ferry to the Island of Hvar

This morning after a final breakfast in Split, it will soon be time to make your way to the ferry port for your high-speed service to Hvar (timings and type of ferry may be subject to change dependent on the season).

Arriving into Hvar in just 1 hour, you disembark as your ferry moors at the port of Hvar Town.  From here, it is a short walk to your hotel for the next three nights, the highly-rated Adriana Hotel & Spa (4 star).

The rest of the day is yours to relax in the comfort of your hotel or find a stylish bar for lunch.

Days 8 & 9 - Exploring the Island of Hvar

Hvar is one of Croatia’s most popular islands, with its numerous pebble beaches, crystal clear waters and sea food restaurants, it’s no wonder why the island is such a popular destination.

Enjoy two full days soaking up the sun as you plan your days at leisure. Perhaps start with a wander from your hotel and into Hvar Town, famed for its natural beauty and fairytale coastline.

You may choose to hire a car (payable locally) to explore the island further and visit some of the lesser-known areas such as the peaceful area of Milna, just 6km from Hvar Town or the quaint town of Stari Grad, known for al fresco dining, colourful souvenir stalls and fishing boats, Hvar has something for everyone.

Day 10 - By ferry to the historic city of Dubrovnik

After savoring a final breakfast at your hotel, make your way back to the port as you bid farewell to Hvar and board a ferry back to the mainland of Croatia. Your high-speed ferry journeys south down the Adriatic, arriving into Dubrovnik in under 3 hours.

On arrival at the port, you will need to take a taxi (payable locally) to your hotel for the next three nights, the highly-rated Valamar Lacroma Hotel (4 star).

This afternoon you may choose to make use of the hotels excellent facilities before finding a traditional  restaurant for dinner.

Days 11 & 12 - Discovering Dubrovnik

From your hotel, the Val President Relax Beach is located only 500 metres away. Here, you can rent a sun lounger with a canopy by the sea with a view of the Elaphiti Islands. You have two whole days to discover more of Dubrovnik, the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. This glorious city enjoys UNESCO World Heritage status, and rewards exploration on foot. You can walk right around the towers and bastions of the high city walls (payable locally) and admire the views over the city and the sea. The old town is accessible from your hotel by public bus or taxi (payable locally).

A walk from Pile Gate down Stradun to the old harbour will take you past a number of sights including the Franciscan monastery and the baroque Church of St. Blaise. Nearby is the elegant Sponza Palace, formerly the Ragusa Mint. Inside you will find the Memorial Room of the Dubrovnik Defenders, with pictures of all those who died during the 1991 bombardment.

Also near the harbour are the Rector’s Palace, the seat of government in the old republic; the Cathedral and Treasury; and the Dominican monastery, where the museum holds a few Titians and an 11th century Bible. The nearest beach is Lazareti, just past Ploce Gate. Another gem of the old town is Banje Beach, a small, pebbled beach where you can cool off from the sunshine and swim out for glorious views over the old town.

Day 13 – Dubrovnik to London - Homeward bound

This morning after a final breakfast, it will soon be time to bid farewell to your hotel and Croatia as you make your way by taxi (payable locally) to Dubrovnik airport ahead of your British Airways flight back to London.

Reminisce on the wonders of the last few days before arriving back into the UK, ahead of the final leg of your journey home. Alternative flights are available based on your preference and dependent on availability.
