Your Vienna & Salzburg by First Class Rail Holiday Itinerary

Day 1 – London to Frankfurt am Main

As you enter beneath the magnificent arched glass roof of London St. Pancras International station your holiday to Vienna & Salzburg begins.

You may have time to wander among the smart shops and relax with a coffee in the departure lounge before you travel in your Standard Premier Class (Eurostar’s 1st Class) seat on board the Eurostar high-speed service.

Relax with a drink and light meal as you pass under the English Channel before arriving at Brussels Midi station, where you change trains for the comfortable ICE service onwards to Frankfurt. Sometimes nicknamed ‘Mainhattan’, this dynamic city boasts a superb contrast of dizzying skyscrapers and medieval, timber-framed houses.

On arrival in vibrant Frankfurt head for your overnight hotel, the comfortable Adina Apartments Frankfurt Neue Oper (4 star), located close to the station. Stretch your legs this evening and maybe find a nice restaurant for dinner.

Day 2 – Frankfurt to Vienna

This morning after breakfast you may have time for a whistle-stop tour of Frankfurt am Main.

Then make your way back to the station to board the ICE service as you travel south east through Germany and into Austria and the wonderful capital city of Vienna.

You are making your own way to your hotel for the next three nights, the highly-rated BW Premier Hotel Harmonie (4 star), which is well-located for discovering the sights of the city.

Days 3 and 4 – Exploring Vienna

You have two full days to explore Vienna’s great history and culture by visiting some of Europe’s finest palaces, churches and museums.

These include the Hofburg Palace which provides an authentic view of the daily life of what was once the centre of a powerful Hapsburg dynasty, the majestic Belvedere Palace (pictured) with its extensive collection of works by Gustav Klimt and St. Stephan’s Cathedral, one of the most recognisable churches in Austria’s capital with its stunning colourful roof.

You might also like to discover more of the city by taking a tram along the ‘Ringstrasse’, which is lined with fascinating grandiose buildings.

Vienna also boasts a wealth of traditional coffee houses where you can sit and watch the world go by before a trip further afield to the evocative Rococo style Schönbrunn Palace, one of the most popular attractions in Vienna.

Salzburg also has a number of attractions related to perhaps its most famous son, Mozart and the city’s most well-known film, the Sound of Music.

Day 8 – Salzburg to Zurich

Today after breakfast make your way back to the station where you board the comfortable Railjet service to the cosmopolitan Swiss city of Zurich.

It is a pleasant stroll across the Limmat River to the Hotel Helmhaus (4 star) for your overnight stay.
