the Orient Express La Dolce Vita in 2025

For your trip of a lifetime take an overnight journey through the heart of Italy aboard the orient express

experience the timeless La Dolce Vita Orient Express train that aims to embody the essence of Italian joie de vivre

Almost 140 years ago, Georges Nagelmackers made his dream come true by launching the first luxury Orient Express trains throughout Europe.

Today, the legend has been reborn in Italy and you are invited to embark on a fascinating journey aboard La Dolce Vita Orient Express.

A tribute to the glamour and of the 1960s, The Orient Express La Dolce Vita is a dedication to the spirit of freedom, well-being and pleasure.

With numerous journeys across Italy available throughout the year, the Orient Express La Dolce Vita is a brand new, exciting and exclusive luxury rail experience.

Boasting lavish interior designs, the train celebrates the craftsmanship and creativity of the 1960s and 1970s and marries the golden age of Italian design with a more contemporary spirit of travel.

The luxurious interior of the trains boasts exclusive accommodation comprising 12 Deluxe cabins, 18 Suites, 1 La Dolce Vita Suite, and a sophisticated restaurant. Additionally, one cabin serves as an elegant lounge area, complete with bar, where guests are invited to enjoy their leisure time.

Deluxe Cabins

Stay in one of 12 Deluxe cabins and experience luxurious accommodation on board. The deluxe cabins feature cool colours, mirrored back walls and wooden slat ceilings. The sofa unfolds to a double bed at night, and the ottomans serve as coffee tables and stools.

The space is designed to be welcoming and flexible at the same time. The contrast of materials, from the softness of the carpet to the natural wood used in the ceiling, all work together to ensure a sense of sophistication and comfort.

All accommodation benefits from ensuite facilities.

Suite Cabins

The opulent and spacious Suite cabins are presented as master bedrooms, equipped with a sofa and a table with two armchairs.

The shades of the furnishings range from warm orange and terracotta to rich purple, with brass finishes. Suite cabin walls are dressed in smoked antique mirror effect and the ceiling in glossy lacquered “burnt Sienna”, giving a sense of space and openness.

The Lounge & Restaurant

The lounge bar and the restaurant represent typical Italian hospitality and sophistication, with luxurious linen tablecloths married to unique 1960s chic.

Take time to mingle with like-minded travellers at the bar or listen to the soothing music provided by the grand piano as you travel through the ever-changing Italian scenery.

Your Orient Express Holiday Itinerary

Day 1 – by Rail to Switzerland

Your holiday begins as you stroll into beautifully restored London St. Pancras station.

Take your time to appreciate the splendour of magnificent glass roof, then sit back, relax and watch the countryside swish past as you travel by Eurostar to Paris at speeds of up to 186mph.

Enjoy the light meal and drinks served on board in Standard Premier Class (formerly 1st class).

On arrival at the Gare du Nord your private taxi transfers you across Paris to the Gare de Lyon to continue your journey by TGV through France into Switzerland.

You travel through the undulating Swiss countryside to attractive lakeside city of Zurich. It is a short walk (700 metres) to your overnight hotel, the comfortable, welcoming and highly-rated Hotel Helmhaus (4 star).

Day 2 – Free-time in Zurich - Through the Swiss Alps to Rome

After breakfast why not make a whistle-stop tour of Zurich. Most of the city’s sights lie within the compact area on either side of the River Limmat, between the main station (Hauptbahnhof) and Lake Zurich.

The churches and burgher houses of the Old Town are clustered here, as are the elegant shops along Bahnhofstrasse.

The baroque Rathaus (Town Hall), Zurich’s most impressive churches – the Grossmünster, Fraumünster – and the city’s oldest, St Peterskirche (its clock face is the largest in Europe), all lie within a short distance of the River Limmat, near the point where it opens onto the lake. As you return to Zurich station, prepare yourselves for the scenic journey along the impressive Gotthard route across the Swiss Alps.

The line transports you across picturesque scenery, climbing to the foot of the snow-capped Alps and through the Gotthard Base Tunnel, the world’s longest tunnel and a marvellous feat of engineering, which opened fully in December 2016.

You soon emerge and continue past soaring mountain peaks across the Swiss border and through the outstanding Italian Lakes before arriving in Milan. On arrival at Milan’s imposing art-deco station change trains and join the flagship Eurostar Italia Frecciarossa (Red Arrow) service to Rome.

Sit back and watch the world go by or simply revel in the romanticism of rail travel across Europe.

On arrival at Roma Termini station make your way to your hotel for the next two nights, the stylish, well-regarded and very highly-rated Hotel dei Mellini (4 star) in a quiet location in the elegant Prati district, close to the River Tiber, 10 minutes on foot from the Spanish Steps and 15 minutes from St. Peter’s Cathedral.

Day 3 – Exploring Rome

There is something to tantalise all tastes seemingly round every corner of this most magical of cities.

Whilst in Rome choose among the stunning array of sights from the Vatican City to the Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum to the Spanish Steps.

Relax with a ‘gelato’ on Piazza Navona or while away the hours shopping on Via del Corso.

Make sure you take the time to see Michelangelo’s masterpiece in the Sistene Chapel. The view from the top of St.Peter’s Cathedral over the seven hills of Rome will provide abiding memories of this wonderful city.

This morning, as you travel through the Italian countryside, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and pass the time taking in the unique atmosphere and charm of this luxury rail experience.

All too soon you will cross the shimmering waters of the lagoon and arrive in Venice, where you can enjoy an intriguing city visit and lunch..

This morning enjoy your second morning on board enjoying a delicious breakfast before arriving in Siena.

Discover more about the region and enjoy a city tour and lunch.

Then all too soon you board the Orient Express for your journey to Rome.

The train pulls into Roma Ostiense station and the end of your journey back in time.

Here you join the comfortable Euro City service as you head in to the Alps for the spectacular journey up the Rhône Valley and through the Simplon Pass.

From here you continue to the pretty lakeside town of Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva.

On arrival in Montreux your overnight hotel is the belle époque Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic (4 star superior) located right next to the station.

Take a stroll alongside Lake Geneva and visit this elegant lakeside town which is home to the famous jazz festival.

Day 7 - Montreux to London

Stretch your legs this morning or board the trolley bus for the short journey to the stunning medieval Château de Chillon (payable locally). As you marvel at the spectacular setting, twixt sparkling lake and breathtaking mountains, spare a thought for the prisoners of this 13th century castle, considered to be one of the best-preserved in Europe.

Then make your way back to Montreux station. From here you join the Inter Regio train to Lausanne where you change trains and board the TGV to whisk you back to Paris.

Watch the rolling hills flash past or reminisce on the wonders of the past few days. Your private taxi transfer takes you to the Gare du Nord and the last leg of your journey.

Here you join the Eurostar and let the train take the strain as you stretch out and savour the meal and drinks included in your Standard Premier service. At 186mph the landscape is a blur at times, though memories abide as you return to London St. Pancras International and the final leg of your journey home.
